How to Stop Your Child's Computer Addiction

1 )  Talk with your child about his/her excessive computer usage. Find out if there are any specific reasons that he/she spends so much time on the computer – sometimes the computer functions as an escape from reality. If your child is facing problems that are causing a desire to “escape”, try and address those.


2  )Move the computer to an open area if it’s not already in one – sometimes taking it out of the child’s bedroom is sufficient to reduce their computer usage, and it makes it easier to monitor their usage.


3) Set a password for the computer so that only you can log on to it. Your child will have to ask to be logged on to the computer in order to use it. (However, this is not recommended for older children in the house, who will need this for study etc. reasons).


4) Find out how bad your child's addiction is, and what exactly your child is addicted to – does your child spend most of his/her computer time playing games, chatting online, or just browsing the Web?


5) * If he/she is addicted to learning information, as long as it is legal, safe and decent, then that should not be an issue. Using the Internet for education, rather than chatrooms/gaming, is a great use.


6) Some children go through phases where they like chat room sites, then decide it is no longer of interest, and move on to more educational-related sites, e.g. computer programming, history, cookery etc. These will not cause worry in most cases.


7)Set a time limit on the amount of time your child can spend on the computer each day. In reality, though, time limits seldom work due to the stress of modern life. As a child gets older, they work it out for themselves, in most cases.


8) Be aware of what your child is doing on the computer. Check the Internet browser's history to see what websites she's visiting, or install a keylogger to monitor the programs that she uses. See below for why not to use keyloggers or monitoring software.


9) Keylogger use is questionable at best, if only due to concerns about privacy for other individuals and guests who use the computer, so really, don't use one (since tech-savvy individuals and guests can and sometimes do uninstall them


10) Replace the time that your child would normally spend on the computer with other activities – play board games with her, take her to the library, get her together with friends to play sports, etc

What is DotA Game?

Defense of the Ancients (Dota) is widely regarded as one of the most popular game modification in the world. Its popularity is ever increasing and is a very popular game across the world especially South-East Asia. 

For starters, Dota as stated is not a game, it’s a modification or more precisely a custom scenario in a real time, multi strategy game War craft III: The Frozen Throne and its predecessor War craft III: Reign of Chaos. The game is available on the web as a freeware here. (another reason accounting for its bulging popularity).

The essence of the game for any team is to destroy one’s opponents’ secured establishments at divergent corners of map at hand. These establishment or structures that need to be destroyed are called as Ancients (hence the name). Three different sets of entities – the dota heroes, dota allied heroes and dota creepshelp the players in their task, heroes being the most powerful of the three. Gold acts as the medium for commodity exchange and is used for buying equipment (also called dota items and spells) and other things during the errand.

The scenario has undergone many mutations since inception and continues to do so. Though the most popular of the all aka Dota Allstars has been reigned through time. The same scenario is used in tournaments and multi player competitions. At present, ‘IceFrog’ is the authoritative developer of this scenario per se.

The game play confronts two teams with each trying to destroy each others’ ancients. The teams are known as the Sentinels (South west corner) and the Scourge (North East corner). Obviously the ancient is heavily guarded and players have to fight to reach the base, at the center of which “Ancient” exists.

Each human player represents a virtual a hero (already mentioned). The hero is vested with extra ordinary powers that help him in its task. Choosing a hero is a tactical decision as one hero’s weakness is another hero’s strength. As such it is a team game but sometimes one hero can change the whole scenario of the game single handedly.

The game mostly revolves around strengthening your heroes. This can be done by neutralizing soft targets and the likes. This lets a hero achieve experience which in turn increases the efficiency of the hero. Killing of enemies heroes does precisely the same. Also another important commodity in the game, gold plays a vital part overall. With gold a hero is able to buy stuff that ultimately leads to increase in level.
